Geocache Description:

This collection of caches has nothing to do with the Church Micro series in the UK. Given that the Australian 2016 census indicates that No Religion and Jedi Knight are the fastest increasing classifications of the optional religion question "What is the person's religion?" it is not surprising that there is surfeit of empty churches that have been repurposed.

.

This is the site of the former Uniting Church, Ashton Memorial Church.

Random coursed stone former church with dressed stone quoins and surrounds. The gabled roof is clad with corrugated iron and the gable end is topped with a small belfry. Window and door openings are Gothic in style, the entrance being decorated with a small hood mould.

By the mid-1870s the original chapel was becoming both overcrowded and dilapidated and in December 1876 it was resolved to build a new chapel for a cost not exceeding £600. Two months later a decision was· made to call the proposed new chapel the 'Ashton Memorial'. Daniel Garlick had been appointed as the architect and in March 1878 the tender of R J Burnett for £1,068 was accepted. The building was to measure 55 feet by 30 feet by 21 feet high and the foundation stone was laid on 1 May 1878 by James G Ashton (James Ashton's son).

In the mid to late 1970s moves were made to close the church and the frequency of services held there was reduced. The final service was held in the chapel on 18 December 1983. The property was sold in April 1986. The building is now used as an art gallery and residence.

To find the cache there is no need to enter the property. There are some words etched in the stone above the front door. Calculate the following:

A = The number of words above the front door + 2
B = The number of m's in the second word (more than one)
C = The number of h's in the third word
D = The number of letters in the first word - 2
E = The number of letters in the second word
F = The number of letters in the third word

Cache is located at s35 00.ABC e138 43.DEF

Checksum: A + B + C + D + E + F = 27

The final location is not far from the starting location
