Geocache Description:

Duluth Junction is where the former Northern Pacific Railway line crossed the former Soo Line. Today these right-of-ways are the bike trails you enjoy.

Construction of the rail lines began in 1870 and rail service continued in different forms until 1982 when the section from Duluth Junction to White Bear Lake was abandoned. One year later, the section to Stillwater was abandoned. The Minnesota Zephyr used a portion of the track from Stillwater for 23 years, up until 2005, as a luxury dinner train excursion. Read the kiosk displays for additional interesting history.

This cache is located at the kiosk near the junction of the Gateway and Brown's Creek Trails. You do not need to dismantle, dismember, disassemble, unscrew, unattach, or undo any part of the sign or kiosk to find it. Please do not damage the property. The cache is easily found, using the hint and your brain.

Placed with permission of MN DNR.
