Many years ago, a young guy named Rick transferred into a German 101 class at the University of Illinois in Champaign. There was a cute girl in the class, so he started chatting her up and walking with her to her next class. After a couple of days they discovered they were living in the same dorm complex, so they started meeting for occasional meals at the cafeteria. Before long, they were eating most meals together. Eventually, Rick decided to ask her out - he had tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters! She said yes, but she had already bought tickets to go to the same show with an old boyfriend who had canceled on her. Her tickets were better, so we used them!
The date was November 15, 1969. It didn’t take long before we were doing everything together, and friends started referring to us as RicknJoy.
After about a year we were able to convince the powers-that-be that we should be married. (Under the laws of the State of Illinois Rick had to get parental permission.) We got married, finished college, got jobs, worked a bunch of years, raised kids, and started geocaching. When it came time to select a caching name, there was no other choice! We’ve done a lot of wandering around - we’ve visited over 1300 US counties, all 50 US states, 6 Canadian provinces, and at least 20 other countries.
