Geocache Description:

Flying an A-10 Thunderbolt II must be a dream come true.  It is an airplane built around two things:  the six barrel, 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger cannon and pilot survivability.  Point of fact, the entire plane was built around the cannon as opposed to a gun being added on to an existing plane.  The pilot sits in a tub of pure titanium; the hardest metal known to man.  The fact that the plane first flew in 1972, an incredible 47 years ago, is a testament to it's value.  It is simply so good that it cannot be replaced.

The 122d Fighter Wing (122 FW sometimes 122d) is a unit of the Indiana Air National Guard, stationed at Fort Wayne Air National Guard Station, Fort Wayne, Indiana. It began life in WWII as the 358th Fighter Group flying the original P-47 Thunderbolt (that plane was a legend in it's own right). The group was deactivated after the war and  renamed the 122 Fighter Group in 1946 and reactivated in 1951.

Please be respectful of the grounds and remember the park closes at dusk.  Bringing the kids along is pretty much a given. :)
