Geocache Description:

At the end of the Nambucca V-Wall are a few pathways leading to a variety of close by areas Shelly Beach, Wellington Rock and the nearby caravan park. Along these paths are signs to read about the ecology, fauna and flora on both land and marine species and of course Geology of the local area. At GZ theres a cliff face and towards The beach behind At the wayward point is flat level land.

Nambucca Heads lies between the geological formation of the Nambucca block ( base layer rock ) and is part of the New England fold belt that sits between Bellingen and Kempsey. The area consists of intensely deformed deep-water Permian age marine sediments, 3-4 kms thick called the Nambucca bed which is 252 - 299 million years old. These beds consist of layers of fine- grained marine sediments, including sandstone, siltstone and mudstone deposited over time, subject to heat and pressure to become metamorphic rock( that is, rock that has changed into another rock )

The Nambucca block was pushed under the central block ( to the west ) and the east side of the Nambucca block was pushed up and deformed. The Nambucca Beds. Consisting of deformed rock is part of the pre-Permian Nambucca Block that is more resistant to weathering. Over time the softer sediments have weathered away leaving the rocky outcrops which maybe seen. These deformed rock, displayed by the outcrops here in Nambucca Heads, consists of slates, phyllites, schists and rare matabasalts.
