The ‘Around the Mearns’ caches (currently 7 in all) can be found as part as a circular walk taking approximately 1½ hours.

The Hayeswood coal mine opened around 1750 and closed in 1862. The pit shaft was a maximum of 6 ft wide and went to a maximum depth of 642 ft.
