Sandland Travel Bug University & Cache Repair Center (STBU) is south-central Wisconsin’s premier Travel Bug educational institution. Located in scenic Waushara County, STBU offers travel bugs from around the world the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We are proud of our past students’ pursuit of travel bug excellence as demonstrated throughout the state, country and world! Sandland Travel Bug University recognizes that each travel bug is an individual; that all bugs are creative; that all bugs need to succeed. Therefore, Sandland Travel Bug University respects the individual needs of travel bugs; fosters a caring and creative environment; and emphasizes the social, emotional, physical, intellectual development of each bug.
While attending Sandland Travel Bug University, your travel bug will have opportunities to travel local, private trails in preparation for journeys along longer paths – building stamina with each trek. Wildlife abound in the region. Sandhill cranes, white tail deer, coyotes, and bobcats are all common in the area. A breeding pair of bald eagles nests within a mile of our campus and make visits. Hunting is permitted in select areas, but not on university grounds. Travel bugs that wish to experience wild animals will enjoy the area around Sandland Travel Bug University! We are proud to our agricultural program too. Families are welcome to wander the grounds after dropping for their bugs. Follow the trails through our Christmas tree farm, or stop by the regent’s home to see the various chickens, ducks and other birds.
Downtown Wautoma is a mere five minutes from campus, offering shopping, eating and fishing opportunities for owners. Travel bugs wishing to experience nature in all its glory will find inspiration here. We are also within 10 miles of Ice Age Trail, numerous State Wilderness Areas and state parks are just a short drive away, For those looking for a more urban experience, we are within 90 minutes of both Madison and the Fox Valley.
High terrain ratings will challenge your travel bug, while hundreds of low terrain rating caches will also enable it to garner many visits in a short time. Difficult puzzles and ingenious disguises will also let your travel bug expand its intellectual side. And yes, we have several 5/5s in the area for travel bugs that want an all-around challenge.
Amenities at STBU include safe and secure lodging! The University is set among 13 privately owned acres with easy access to the university grounds. 24-hour security on campus is guaranteed. Each student will be welcomed into a room best befitting their size. All but the very largest travel bugs will easily find a space in our University. Need a place for a bug with a bowling ball? We have room for you! Those with special needs are welcome! We have an in-house repair facility for those travel bugs that have been damaged in their life journey before reaching us. Free wi-fi is available for all students. Travel bugs have sevearl different housing choices at our University. Those bugs hoping to travel from place to place or get miles fast should reside on of the sixteen dorm rooms found in Ulmer Hall. Bugs that need more space can find ample accomodations in Signal Hall. Our newest housing is designed for those with special projects in mind. The Quads (Braband, Jansen, Vechinski, and Worske Quad) each have room for four travel bugs looking to achieve a special goal after they leave our University. Being an open and inclusive University, we do allow bugs to live outside the dorms as needed.
We work with our travel bugs and their parents to assure they meet their individual goals. We have a 100% graduation and placement rate! Those travel bugs that seem to be languishing in their studies will be given the attention needed in order to help them succeed.
Travel bugs are not our only concern here. If you are in need of cache containers (camo or plain), log sheets, baggies or other cache maintenance materials, visit the Cache Repair Center within STBU.
Due to COVID conditions, the dean requests that visitors remain on the school grounds and do not approach the administration building. We have members of our family that are immunocompromised.
