Geocache Description:

You are looking for a magnetic nano. BYOP

Historic well in Llantwit Major opposite Downcross Farm having been known by three different names.

History

C18 to early C19 surround to an ancient well.

In the late C14 to C15, the well at this site was known as Thergat’s well. This name is probably derived from it's location by the turn gate. On maps of the first Elizabeth, it is shown as Turngate Street, and this in the dialect of Llantwit, became Turkey Street. The well was also known as Samson’s well (Samson was a common name in the C17 in the family of the local landowners, the Nicholls); also known locally in more recent times as Nancy’s well.

The well is Grade ll listed, included as a part of the historic water supply of Llantwit Major.
