Amazing Grace Chapel was erected in 1985 by Orvile and Bobb Strayhorn at 312 West Indiana Street, Beebe, Arkansas. The building was moved here June 10, 2004.
There is an avenue of flags leading to the chapel. They are in honor of all veterans. One of the Army veterans buried in this cemetery is Jason Michael Swindle. He was killed in Afghanistan September 20, 2012. Sgt. Swindle earned the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart for his heroism.
The lyrics to "Amazing Grace" were penned by the Englishman John Newton (1725-1807). Once the captain of a slave ship, Newton converted to Christianity after an encounter with God in a violent storm at sea. Chris Tomlin wrote a contemporary version in 2006.
