Geocache Description:

Multiple stages of history are preserved here at the Imperial Citadel, so it seemed fitting for this cache to be one with multiple stages as well. The citadel itself dates back to 1010 when the capital was moved from Hoa Lu. There are also archaeological artifacts dating back to the 7th century. As you enjoy your walk through the grounds you will collect the numbers needed for the coordinates of the final stage.

Note: The grounds are (sometimes) closed on Mondays.

The coordinates for the final container are: N21 E.EFG, E105 AB.DGC

A - The South Gate dates back to the Le Dynasty and was the main entrance for kings going in and out of the Forbidden City. How many archways are there in the main structure (the grey section)? The answer is A.

B - A large bell commemorating the 1,000 year anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi in 2010. Find the information plaque. It is only written in Vietnamese but you can find the height and weight listed on the plaque. It's height (cao) is 3#50 mm and its weight (trọng lượng) is 35## kg. # = B.

C - A large incense burner with dragons on top and the sides. If you look carefully underneath you can see that it was made in 2011 and its weight is 152# kg. # = C.

D - Continue on to the large drum and the sapphire turtle. Turtles play an important role in Vietnamese legends and culture. This sapphire turtle weighs 2 tons. Find the information plaque to see the dimensions of the turtle. Its height is #6 cm. # = D.

E - The Dragon Steps are what still remain from the Kính Thiên Palace Foundation. Find the steps and count how many dragons you see. The answer is E.

F - Building D67 was used as general headquarters of the People's Army of Vietnam and contained meeting rooms for the Politburo during the height of the war with America. For this stage you need to go downstairs into the bunker and visit the meeting room. Many original artifacts are still in place, including maps pinned to the wall. Count the number of maps on the wall. The answer is F.

G - Visit the UAZ-469 Car that was used by the army. What is the final number on its red license plate? The answer is G.

Now you should have all you need to determine the coordinates for the final stage and retrieve the cache. N21 E.EFG, E105 AB.DGC
