Geocache Description:

This is another country church and cemetery that gives us a lot of the history of the area.

Before the church building was built, the Anglicans and Methodists worshiped in a log building near Boyd’s Corner. This was also their first school house and was called “The Meeting House”. Some of the first Anglicans obtained a portion of land on the corner where the church now stands. It was here that the church was built and a cemetery begun. Old St. John’s Church was built about 1834/5. It was made of pit-sawn lumber. The church was framed like a barn, and was finished with boards and painted. The inside was plastered and painted white. The pews were home-made and the boards from which they were made were free from knots.  Before the Parish of Clayton and Innisville was formed in 1888, the Rectors came from Carleton Place and one from Balderson. In 1911 the new St. John’s Church was built. The old church was torn down as people did not want it used for a barn or stable.

The cache is hidden in the cemetery behind the church. Please be respectful of the area you are in and only search for the cache during the day.
