Between 1830 and 1850, the Old Spanish Trail crossed the Green River in the vicinity of present day Green River, Utah. The settlement of Green River, on the West side of the river, began as a river crossing for the U.S. mail, and a ferry was established at that time. The East side of the river became known as Elgin, and grew due to the building of the railroad. Green River became the town used by the railroad, and Elgin is now a ghost town. In the 1940's to the 1960's, Green River was a significant town in the mining of uranium.
This cache is found in the Elgin cemetery. It is your basic high desert cemetery, so don't expect green grass and trees. But in this cemetery is someone very dear to our hearts. Please take a little time to look at the very different memories that have been left in this cemetery by loved ones. And as always, be respectful, and no night caching.
