Geocache Description:

A GAG 27 game-themed cache by waxwing454 & MAPSIT.

When the two of us elected to put out this GAG27 cache, we knew we wanted it to be a simple, fun, game-themed mystery cache. For this particular cache we chose an “unscramble the word” game, Jumble, “That Scrambled Word Game,” that is a feature of many newspapers, including the Ottawa Citizen. To find the cache you’ll need only to unscramble six words, and calculate the digital roots of the ordinal-alphabetic-position of the letters in the indicated positions. This will generate six digits, A, B, C, D, E, & F. The cache can then be found at N45 17.ABC, W075 54.DEF.

An example will make these calculations clear. As per the instructions printed with each Jumble game, one unscrambles the scrambled letters to form ordinary words. Thus, if the clue were X: ROMPIT - 3, then you’d unscramble the letters R, O, M, P, I, & T, to make the ordinary word IMPORT. The third letter is M, which occupies position 13 in the alphabet. The digital root of 13 is 4, and so the digit X in the cache coordinate specification would be 4.

A: SEERGY - 1

B: BRMEAK - 6

C: GRACIL - 5

D: GRYTEA - 3

E: SPOINH - 6

F: UTXODE - 3

We’re pretty confident that each of the scrambled words unscrambles into a unique ordinary English word. We offer our apologies to our fellow francophone geocachers that the words are exclusively English. Being bilingual is a bit of a handicap for this game, as we know from our experience, because a given set of letters may unscramble into different words in English and French, and having found a French unscrambling makes it harder to discover the English one.
