The Reference Point identifies two historical markers that are located at the intersection of Duncannon Road and Golden Leaf Boulevard. These two markers were originally placed at Rest Areas alongside Interstate 75 in Madison County, but when the rest areas were closed, a new home had to be found for them. This became their new home, but it is not the actual site of a structure.
The trailhead leads you to a turn off (nothing to be found here but a dirt road leading into a field) in order to access the monument and cache.
Posted coordinates lead you by the monument. Most people aren't aware of this historical monument's presence here (which was originally erected here by the Boonesborough Chapter D.A.R in 1937). This is reported to be the actual site of the Native American attack on Daniel Boone’s trailblazing party in Madison County while they charted a road through the area in the spring of 1775. The monument is on property maintained by the City of Richmond KY, but the farm surrounding it belongs to a landowner. Please be respectful of the property, and stay off the surrounding farm. To earn your smiley for this geocache, you must locate a rather slick guardian who is keeping a tight eye on the monument from a short distance away.
