A great viewpoint of Coquet Island from the friendly port of Amble. Coquet Island is a protected seabird sanctuary which is home to 40,000 breeding seabirds. Birds nesting on the island include: Puffins, Roseate Terns, Kittiwakes, Eider (Cuddy) Ducks, Oyster Catchers, Common and Arctic Terns. You cannot land on the Island but there are seasonal boat trips out to Coquet Island from Amble which take you close to the shoreline.
The lighthouse was built in 1841 and has a height of 22 metres. The first lighthouse keeper was William Darling who was the elder brother of Grace Darling.
