Geocache Description:

In September 2015 as part of Conservation Week DOC Greymouth placed a geocache on this walkway. About 18 months later the cache disappeared, it was disabled by the CO and soon after replaced by another geocacher who came prepared with another container and so it continued to be found on a regular basis. A year ago we walked this track with visitors and my peripheral vision picked up something in the undergrowth about 20m from GZ, it turned out to be the missing cache which was still being found and the log signed despite not being where it was meant to be. Unable to do anything about it at the time we returned a couple of days later to rescue it and put it back where it belonged, leaving the replacement log in it as well. Unfortunately it remained "disabled" and although still being found was recently archived by DOC as being unable to maintain it hence this placement.

Coal Creek Track is a 3.6km return walk along a track classified by DOC as an Easy Walking Track.

The path gently descends though a mixed beech-podocarp forest with a stunning waterfall as your reward at the end of the track.

To get there:-

From Greymouth follow SH6 northeast for 8 km to Runanga. Turn right down Seddon Street and right into Ballance Street. There is a carpark at the end of Ballance Street.

Dogs are allowed on a leash only.

There is no room for trackables in the cache, please bring your own pen.

Please replace cache as found, well covered from attack by local wildlife.
