PH Tree is a micro sized park n grab hidden along the Seward Highway best approached from the southbound lanes of the highway!
The location was found back in 2018 when I was looking for information to see how the Seward Highway road construction would affect a cache I had hidden north of this one. While reviewing the project and map, I found that this area that was being used to store construction equipment would eventually be turned into a parking area. The project map also showed that a walking path would be made next to the guard rail to a small 'peninsula' a couple of miles north. The idea being the hooligan fisherman would park at this cache location and not on the side of the road and use the path to make their way along the highway to another spot popular with them. Unfortunately, the path only goes approximately a half mile north of this cache location. My thought is that the highway bed was not wide enough for the path to continue all the way to the small 'peninsula'.
This cache is best approached from the southbound lanes. I do not encourage slowing down or stopping to turn left across traffic from the northbound lanes as it happens to be at the beginning of a passing area.
The cache was placed in 2018 and now that the construction on this portion of the highway and the parking area are complete its safe to publish!
As with all pull offs along the Seward Highway, the views are spectacular so take a moment to look for eagles and other birds, watch the tide come and go or simply to stop and find a park n grab!!!
