Geocache Description:

ST LUKE'S CHURCH

St Luke's Church, on the corner of Berry Street and Leece Street, is a former Anglican Church. It was built between 1811 and 1832 and was designed by father and son John Foster Sn & John Foster Jr, who were successive surveyors for The Corporation Of Liverpool.

On May 6th 1941 the church was hit by an incendiary device, dropped by the German Luftwaffe during Liverpool's May Blitz, the resulting fire left just the roofless shell, hence it's nickname of 'The Bombed-Out Church'.  Luckily, the attack was in the early hours of the morning, which meant no lives were lost.  Whilst some people called for the damaged building to be demolished, it was decided that the Bombed Out Church was to be remain standing, serving as a memorial to 4,000 people killed in Merseyside during the War.

In more recent times the church has been host to music and theatre events and many a young couple has chosen to tied the knot within its walls.

You do not need to enter the church grounds to retrieve the cache

There is plenty of Pay & Display parking on the surrounding streets
