Il nome Galera risale ai secoli XVII e XVIII e deriva, quasi sicuramente, dal tipo di nave da guerra e da commercio usata nel Mar Mediterraneo in Passato
La piccola baia, prima della costruzione del porto turistico, era caratterizzata da una piccola spiaggia ben poco antropizzata, coronata da vegetazione, fra cui alberi di eucalipto che crescevano fino alla riva e priva di costruzioni significative; le sue acque poco profonde e tranquille la rendevano un luogo adatto alle famiglie con figli piccoli per trascorrervi le vacanze estive.
Il progressivo insabbiamento della baia, ha creato la duna di Cala Galera, utilizzata a scopo turistico e composta, in buona parte, da vegetazione a bassa copertura di rupi e falesie che interessa la parte terminale del fosso Boccadoro, parallela e adiacente al molo sottoflutto, tra Punta Caterina e Poggio Pertuso.
Il porto, denominato "marina di Cala Galera", fu costruito nel corso degli anni settanta, nel periodo in cui Susanna Agnelli era sindaco di monte Argentario, ed è progressivamente divenuto uno dei più grandi e attrezzati approdi turistici dell'intero litorale toscano.
Troverete anche sia spiaggia libera che uno stabilimento balneare attrezzato, grazie al basso fondale, si può camminare in acqua e raggiungere la spiaggia della Feniglia situata subito dopo Poggio Pertuso.

The name Galera dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and almost certainly derives from the type of warship and trading vessel used in the Mediterranean Sea in the past.
The small bay, before the construction of the tourist port, was characterized by a small beach very little man-made, crowned with vegetation, including eucalyptus trees that grew to the shore and had no significant constructions; its shallow and calm waters made it a suitable place for families with young children to spend their summer holidays there.
The progressive silting up of the bay has created the dune of Cala Galera, used for tourist purposes and composed, for the most part, of low-covering vegetation of cliffs and cliffs that involves the terminal part of the Boccadoro ditch, parallel and adjacent to the pier below the breakwater, between Punta Caterina and Poggio Pertuso.
The port, called "Marina di Cala Galera", was built during the seventies, in the period in which Susanna Agnelli was mayor of Monte Argentario, and has gradually become one of the largest and best equipped tourist landing places on the entire Tuscan coast.
You will also find both free beach and an equipped bathing establishment, thanks to the shallow water, you can walk in the water and reach the Feniglia beach located just after Poggio Pertuso.
