Descriptif de l'earthcache
La discordance
Une discordance est un contact entre deux couches géologiques qui se rencontrent sous des inclinaisons différentes. La couche la plus récente repose horizontalement sur des couches plissées.
À Carville, sur le site de Saint-Aulin, on trouve un remarquable affleurement de la discordance cadomienne composée de poudingue pourpré datant du cambrien et de flysch datant du briovérien.
Le poudingue
Le poudingue est une roche sédimentaire constituée de débris arrondis, généralement des anciens galets qui ont été transportés sur une certaine distance dans des rivières ou sur un littoral. C'est une roche compacte où sont mélangés des éléments grossiers (galets) pris dans un ciment naturel, ce qui permet à la roche d'être consolidée.
Le flysch
Le flysch est une roche sédimentaire constituée d'une alternance de schiste et de grès, formée par l'érosion de montagnes en formation

A unconformity is a contact between two geological layers that meet under different inclinations. The most recent layer lies horizontally on pleated layers.
In Carville, on the Saint-Aulin site, there is a remarkable outcrop of the Cadomian unconformity composed of purple puddingstone dating from the Cambrian period and flysch dating from the Brioverian period
Puddingstone
Puddingstone is a sedimentary rock consisting of rounded debris, usually old pebbles that have been transported over a distance in rivers or shoreline. It is a compact rock where coarse elements (pebbles) are mixed in a natural cement, allowing the rock to be consolidated.
