Kaniksu Land Trust purchased 160 acres of wide open meadows and forests with varied terrain just minutes from town. Signage and trails will improve as funds and time allow but currently there are three main wide trails with various narrow and connector trails in place. Two of the connector trails hook up to Greta's Segway Path to the east. Pine Street Woods is also adjacent to a trail area known as Sherwood Forest.
Pine Street Woods trail details: The trail marked with a frog is a wide easy trail that will soon be paved for wheelchairs. That is the trail for this cache. I gave this cache a Power trail icon because there are many in the PSWs.
Other trails: The wide intermediate trail is marked with a crooked pine tree icon. Follow that past an old rusty car to a crooked pine tree. The trail marked with a pinecone is a wide advanced trail. Butterfly icons represent the narrow easy trails.
Access: PSW can be approached from town heading west on Pine Street. This is not the same access as Greta's Segway. Follow Pine Street around. If you are coming from Priest River, you do not need to go all the way into Sandpoint. Look for West Pine Street which is a left turn at the Northern Lights Dover Switch Yard. It is a well maintained gravel road that will take you to the entrance to the Pine Street Woods where you will continue on another curvy gravel road for a mile.
So, come explore your new trails. You can hike, bike, snow shoe or ski. The gates are open from 7AM-7PM.
