Kaniksu Land Trust purchased 160 acres of wide open meadows and forests with varied terrain just minutes from town. Improvements are being made as funds allow.
Crooked Pine trail details: This wide intermediate trail is marked with a tree icon. Follow that past an old rusty car to a crooked pine tree. This tree is the symbol that appears on the PSW literature and maps so it is certainly worthy of the short hike. You will be rewarded with a view overlooking the wooded valley and Pend Oreille River. I have added the Power Trail icon because there are many caches in this area even though they are not in a straight line.
Access: PSW can be approached from town heading west on Pine Street. This is not the same access as Greta's Segway. Follow Pine around. If you are coming from Priest River, you do not need to go all the way into Sandpoint. Look for West Pine Street which is a left turn at the Northern Lights Dover Switch Yard. It is a well maintained gravel road that will take you to the entrance to the Pine Street Woods. Follow that about a mile.
So, come explore your new trails. You can hike, bike, snowshoe or ski. The gates are closed at 7PM and open at 7AM.
