In the winter, I switch out the adorable cache for a standard jar.
Kaniksu Land Trust purchased 160 acres of wide open meadows and forests with varied terrain just minutes from Sandpoint. Signage and trails will improve as funds and time allow. The wide intermediate trail to this cache is a loop and is marked with a tree icon. It takes off from the hut. At the Y, the lower loop is the most direct route to this cache. There are three caches on this loop trail so feel free to head either direction. Just make sure you follow the trail past an old rusty car to a crooked pine tree with a view of the Pend Oreille River and score the other cache. I marked this as a Power Trail because there are many caches in these woods.
Access: PSW can be approached from town heading west on Pine Street. This is not the same access as Greta's Segway. Follow Pine around. If you are coming from Priest River, you do not need to go all the way into Sandpoint. Look for West Pine Street which is a left turn at the Northern Lights Dover Switch Yard. It is a well maintained gravel road that will take you to the entrance to the Pine Street Woods. Follow that windy road about a mile.
So, come explore your new trails. You can hike, bike, snow shoe or ski. The gates are Open 7-7.
Please please please cover this cache with bark. It took many hours to make and I do not want it to go missing. This cache is placed in the Pine Street Woods with permission granted by Kaniksu Land Trust.
