Butter Track Pass
I hear there is a fabulous walk down the steep escarpment and into the valley below via the historic Butter Track Pass and then back up the adjacent Caloola Pass.
Not much is written about these passes, but there are snippets of information about.
If you're short take a tall friend.
Note: Near the parking reference point heading toward the Butter Track Pass there is an unofficial sign indicating the road is a private road. I went for a drive passed the sign down this road which ends at a gate about 200 metres before the track head.
I have contacted Wingecarribee Shire Council who indicated Lees Road from the parking point to Butter Track Pass is Crown Land. Contact with Crown Land confirmed this also however, an investigation needs to be conducted to ascertain who in fact own the road.
I don't recommend driving beyond the sign. I cannot ascertain whether Butter Track Pass is accessible to the public via an alternate route skirting the private property boundary via public crown land. It would be interesting to know.
I am fairly sure there is public access to Carloola Pass. I have a rough idea where it is.
