Erosion

erosion is the action of surface processe that removes soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location on the Earth's crust, and then transport it away to another location. This natural process is caused by the dynamic activity of erosive agents, that is, water, ice, snow, air, plants, animals, and humans. In accordance with these agents, erosion is sometimes divided into water erosion, glacial erosion, snow erosion, wind erosion, zoogenic erosion, and anthropogenic erosion. The particulate breakdown of rock or soil into clastic sediment is referred to as physical or mechanical erosion; this contrasts with chemical erosion, where soil or rock material is removed from an area by its dissolving into a solvent (typically water), followed by the flow away of that solution. Eroded sediment or solutes may be transported just a few millimetres, or for thousands of kilometres.

Types Of River Erosion

Valley Or Stream Erosion - Over time water flow along land creates this erosion. It moves downward, creates a valley, and head-ward, making the valley into the hillside. This happens alot during flooding.

Bank Erosion - Over time, banks of rivers and streams are worn down due to the movement of the river. the water will wear away at the banks of the river and move the dirt downstream.

What Will You See Here?

At This Location You Will see the shores of the grand river, as you look around you will see lots of erosion happening, As the rushing waters of the grand river wash up over the shore of lafortune park, the dirt wears away, leaving obvious signs that erosion is happening.

the two types of erosion here

Bank Erosion - This is where the water has washed up onto the flat land you are standing on and has taken the ground (dirt) with it when it retreated back into the river. this is why the bank is so smooth and muddy. you will also notice the ground you are standing on is usually mushy. this is because when flooding happens, the water is absorbed into the ground, until the water goes back into the river.

Valley Or Stream Erosion - This is where the edge of the river has been almost "mined" away at. its why the river is almost cut around the edges of the grand river, it is how the river became bigger and bigger. the river started out as a stream and it kept digging around the edges and digging around the bottom until it became what it is now... one day this whole entire bottom section of the park will be eroded away.
