Geocache Description:

I was sad to see that the original dragoncacher series from 2008 by McYeo was now down to just two caches by 2019;#6 GC1A739 near Kingston St Mary, and #5 GC19DE3 off the road to Lilstock (an at risk one only recently revived by a few hardy cachers). This one #4 GC197R9  was archived in Mar 2011.  So in memorium for 2020:-

"In Shervage Wood resided a dragon that was reputed to be a great worm thicker than three oak trees. It ravaged the local woods and countryside, crushing and then gobbling up livestock, wild ponies and the odd shepherd. No-one dared go within a mile of the woods.

Then one day a Crowcombe woman who wanted the wood free of the pesky dragon, so she could go and collect wortleberries for her pies, tricked a stranger from Stogumber to go and collect some wood for her from Shervage wood.

After a while he sat down on a log to have his lunch of bread, cheese and cider (given to him by the old woman); but no-sooner had he sat down, but the log started to wriggle from under him. The woodcutter grabbed his axe and cut the great worm clean in two.

One part of the worm wriggled to Bilbrook before perishing; the other wriggled south to Kingston St Mary."

Visit this new cache to check out the area and see what remains. There are photos in the Gallery of the original site from 2009 and 2011 that you can also try and match up.

There are trails which will get you most of the way on foot, either up from near the 'Castle of Comfort' on the A39 (requiring more climb), or along the banked bridleway branching from the Five Lords steep lane where there are a few pull offs for cars.

It is reputed that this Wurm had previously laid an egg.  Once you have finished investigating here why not continue onto 'Dragons Den' GC5YB47 where I could have sworn there was a sleeping baby dragon on the wall last time I looked.
