Backwell’s War Memorial, located opposite St Andrew’s Church in Church Town, commemorates the lives lost of villagers during the First and Second World Wars, as well as the War in Afghanistan.


Look at the plaque on the wall behind the memorial, dedicated to a soldier called Matthew. Number of letters in his surname = A

The number of people honoured on the memorial with the surname Carpenter = B

How many gold coloured ‘balls’ are on the black fence surrounding the memorial? You may need to look behind some shrubs to spot them all. Total number = CD
