Prima della costruzione della pista ciclabile - una ventina di anni fa - questa zona di Colico era conosciuta e utilizzata solo da chi coltivava i campi, allevava i cavalli o cacciava. Nessun altro in vista.
Ma prima ancora, tanti anni fa, quando l'Adda sfociava nel lago di Mezzola e non era stato canalizzato dagli austriaci, la zona era per lo più paludosa e afflitta da varie malarie. Il medico Luigi Sacco e l'ingegnere Jaques Rousselin furono tra i primi a sostenere le necessarie opere di bonifica per allievare le sofferenze alla popolazione.
Tra le varie fonti orali, raccontate magari a mezza voce, si narra che la zona fosse infestata da streghe che nella notte di Halloween erano solite compiere il rituale sacrificio umano.
Verità o fantasia? Difficile a dirsi, ma a testimonianza di una certa verosimilità ci è rimasto l'ultracentenario... Albero dell'Impiccato!
E sarà lì che il temerario geocacher potrà andare a cercare qualche ulteriore indizio che apporti nuovi elementi a trasformare la Leggenda in Storia.
Prima di avventurarvi nell'impresa guardate gli attributi per non arrivare sul posto impreparati... ciò potrebbe esservi fatale!!
LA CACHE
START/STAGE 1
Qui, nel buio della notte, utilizzando uno degli strumenti suggeriti dovrete trovare gli indizi che vi porteranno al varco per entrare nel mondo delle streghe.
Aggiornamento 2026. Dato che il Comune di Colico ha cambiato le panchine, sono sparite le informazioni per cui serviva la torcia UV. Per trovare il secondo stage utilizzate questa formula, i dati sono sulla bacheca dedicata alla falesia.
Stage 2:

STAGE 2
Siete al varco. Attenzione a non sbagliare sentiero: potreste rimanere impantanati nel fango e dover lottare con ortiche e rovi.
Da qui camminate per 352 metri con un angolo di 68,7°.
STAGE 3
Qui siete sempre più immersi nel buio pesto, le vostre torce illuminanti squarci terrorizzanti...
Se non siete cascati in acqua potreste avere la fortuna di essere arrivati nel bel mezzo di qualcosa di solido.
Da qui volgete lo sguardo a breve distanza e se le vostre torce saranno abbastanza potenti non potrete non scorgere la spettrale sagoma dell'imponente Albero dell'Impiccato. Sempre che non ci sia la nebbia...
Per qualsiasi evenienza potrete comunque affidarvi al vostro GPS: l'Albero dell'Impiccato si trova a 21 metri di distanza con un angolo di 121°.

Before the construction of the bicycle way - some twenty years ago - this area of Colico was known and used only by those who cultivated the fields, raised horses or hunted. No one else in sight.
But before that, many years ago, when the Adda flowed into Lake Mezzola and was not still channeled by the Austrians, the area was mostly marshy and plagued by various malaria. The doctor Luigi Sacco and the engineer Jaques Rousselin were among the first to support the necessary reclamation works to alleviate the suffering to the population.
Among the various oral sources, it is also said that the area was haunted by witches who used to perform ritual human sacrifice on Halloween night.
Truth or fantasy? Difficult to say, but as a testimony of a certain verisimilitude, we still have the centenarian... Hanging Tree!
And it will be there that the reckless geocacher will be able to look for some further clues that will bring new elements to transform the Legend into History.

THE CACHE
START/STAGE 1
Here, in the dark of night, using one of the suggested tools you will have to find the clues that will lead you to the trailhead to enter the world of witches.
Due to Colico municipality changes, the informations that required a UV torch are no more there. You can find the new informations using the data on the panel dedicated to the cliff.
Stage 2:

STAGE 2
You are at the trailhead. Be careful not to miss the path: you could get stuck in the mud and have to fight with nettles and thorns.
From here you have to walk 352 meters with a bearing of 68.7°.
STAGE 3
Here you are more and more immersed in pitch darkness, your torches illuminating terrifying scenes...
If you have not fallen into the water you might be lucky enough to have arrived in the middle of something solid.
From here look around for a short distance and if your torches are powerful enough you will be able to see the ghostly shape of the big Hanging Tree. As long as there is no fog...
In any case, you can still trust on your GPS: the Hanging Tree is 21 meters away with a bearing of 121 °.
