Geocache Description:

Edmondsham is a village in the county of Dorset in southern England. It is situated two miles north west of Verwood and ten miles north of Bournemouth. It is sited near the source of a small stream which flows into the River Allen. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 200. The surrounding countryside is well-wooded. Edmonsham House was built in 1589, and in 1905 was described by Sir Frederick Treves as "grey with age" and hence "like a mist in the wood".[1] Edmonsham House Gardens are open to the public.

A quaint village with old brick houses and cottages, a big iron village pump dated 1884 and a pretty church. The charming Manor House, open to the public on selected days, has an impressive 17th century staircase and a good selection of paintings, including a portrait of Lewis Tregonwell, founder of Bournemouth.

The grounds, open more frequently, include a wonderful walled organic garden and an unusual octagonal Victorian dairy. The surrounding beech woodlands and estate provide a number of attractive walks.

The pump has been blocked and the wheel has been locked for both safety and preservation unposed. Please do not attempt to turn the wheel as it may cause damage to the mechanism.
