An easy stroll through a beautiful little park (one block area), perfect for a day when you don’t want to tromp through the woods. You may want to plan on visiting the Ybor City State Museum, and taking in lunch or dinner at one of the many fantastic Latin restaurants within walking distance
This area is steeped in Tampa’s Latin history, and dedicated to those who, while searching for a better life for themselves and their families, created a city within a city, rich with culture and “flavored with tradition.”
Visiting the Ybor City State Museum is not required for the cache, but, what the heck? You’re already there! The museum is open every day from 9a to 5p. Entrance is $4.00. Next to the museum are Casitas, or Canones, the shotgun houses in which cigar rollers lived starting in the late 1890’s. A tour of a Casita is included in the museum admission. It’s a step back in time that’s worth your time!
Although there are no walls around the park, signs state that it is open from dawn to dusk. If you do the cache late in the day, you could go to dinner and wait for the Ybor night life to emerge. The historic district is transformed, as partiers spill into the streets from an eclectic array of bars and other establishments. Main streets are closed to traffic. Ybor at night is not for the kids or the faint of heart.
Parking is convenient near the above coordinates. (Meters are 25¢ / 30 min, M-F 8a-3a, Sat 10p-3a, FREE Sat & Sun during the day.)
