Geocache Description:

This cache was inspired by running out of reading material half way through our last trek through the Massasauga Provincial Park. I was getting so desperate for something to read that I even read the shampoo bottle "lather, rinse, repeat."

The solution was simple! I've left a cache full of books.

The Rule: If you take a book, please replace it with another. And remember, this is a family cache, let's keep it "rated G" please.

This is not an easy cache to get to in one day and you will probably have to spend at least one night Interior Park camping. The cache is located on Spider Lake and is in a section of the park that is water access only and can only be accessed by canoe. The Massasauga Provincial Park is part of the Ontario Provincial Park system and being so requires backcountry interior permits and in most cases camping reservations. For more information check www.ontarioparks.com or call 1-888-ONT-PARK. The most efficient way into the park is through the Three Legged Lake Access Point. You will however, have to pick up you back country permit at Oastler Lake Provincial Park located off hwy 69, follow the signs.

The container is a Tupperware type with a beige lid stashed into a mossy crevasse. Don't forget to log your visit I would like to hear about your trip. Remember to completely recover the cache once finished.

Starting Inventory:

  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
  • Great Canadian Short Stories
  • Paper Bag Princess - Robert Munsch
  • Flash Fire - Richard Stark
  • Call of the Wild - Jack London
  • Of Mice And Men - Steinbeck

I have posted a cheater map so be warned before you open it. If you purchase the Massasauga interior camping and facilities tripping map than this cheater map will make perfect sense to you.

Remember: This park has Massasauga Rattlesnakes, which are venomous. So take precautions when poking around looking for geocaches. Rattlesnakes are generally shy and tend not to strike unless provoked. When you hear a distinctive buzzing sound or "rattle", stop moving, determine the snake's whereabouts, and then move away slowly. It only takes common sense to stay safe. That being said don't worry I have only seen one rattlesnake ever in the last ten years visiting this site.
