Geocache Description:

Welcome to the historic Western Reserve Mausoleum.

The Western Reserve Mausoleum (the newer white colored building closest to the road) was built in 1929. It sits on a piece of land also used for Western Reserve Cemetery. It is situated directly between Oakwood Cemetery (to the north), and St. Mary's Cemetery (to the south), and Union Cemetery (to the west).

Directly behind the Western Reserve Mausoleum is Oaklawn Mausoleum. Oaklawn Mausoleum is part of Union Cemetery in Warren. Oaklawn Mausoleum is the older of the two buildings. It was dedicated in 1912. The original caretakers of the private mausoleum abandoned it in the 1930s or 1940s. The City of Warren inherited the building in 1973 as a result. Oaklawn Mausoleum was permanently closed and condemned in 1998 because of the high costs of repairing and maintaining the aging building.

From the information I've been able to gather, The Western Reserve Mausoleum is accessible, but only by appointment. You can still visit the grounds and the exterior of the two buildings. The Oaklawn Mausoleum, as mentioned above, is no longer accessible.

Please remember where you are. No night caching, and please be respectful of the grounds. There is no need to enter any buildings or to touch anything. This entire adventure can be completed from publicly accessible areas outside the mausoleum.

To find the cache, you need to complete a few tasks. One can prove to be quite difficult and will challenge your eyesight, but I promise it's not an impossible task. The remaining two tasks will challenge your ability to follow directions and find things that are well hidden.

Here are your tasks:

  1. From the posted coordinates, locate the engraving on the building. Find the LAST NAME of the "designer" of the mausoleum. Write this down.

  2. From the posted coordinates, navigate to the SOUTHEAST corner of the mausoleum. Near this corner there is a small grave marker. It's the only one in this area that I could find, which is why it was odd. The marker is only about 10 inches wide. You need to find the LAST NAME of the person this marker belongs to. Write this down.

  3. From the posted coordinates, locate the front door of the mausoleum. Looking through the front door into the mausoleum through the glass you need to find a name. Find the year of BIRTH for the vault visible on the BACK WALL of vaults (straight through the middle of the mausoleum interior). There are two names visible on the back wall, you want the one in the top row toward the right wall.

Once you've obtained the necessary information, enter the information in the format NAMENAMEYEAR into the checker below. You will then be rewarded with the coordinates to the final container containing the logbook.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
