The Underground Railroad Experience Trail at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park evokes the experience of enslaved freedom seekers traveling through Montgomery County, Maryland, on their way to safety in the north. Those escaping utilized a network of secret routes and safe houses rather than railroad tracks or tunnels as the name might suggest. The trail is part of the National Park Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. Park grounds and the trail are open free of charge year-round, dawn to dusk for self-guided exploration. The natural surface trail is approximately 4.0 miles round-trip through fields and woods. Trail maps are available onsite. The trail is not ADA accessible or suitable for all strollers. Bicycles are not permitted. Parking may be limited on weekends or during special events. Public restrooms are available when the Woodlawn Museum is open. A portable toilet is available at other times. Our Cub Scout Webelo Den (10 year olds) created this geocache and made the swag inside.
