Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic Church
The Church is situated near the centre of Mt Barker township.
The land was donated by Mrs Joanna Barr Smith .
Mr Y Frickey undertook the work from the designs of architects Messrs AS-FH Conrad
It is constructed of local freestone and this is flanked by massive buttresses built from Littlehampton bricks.
The foundation stone was laid on the 12th November 1911 by Rev Fr John Roney,
The Nave 50'x 30'with height of 26',tower Inner porch 15'x 7' pronounced by an effective portico ,A seperate entrance can be gained through the Belfry Tower.and turrets were opened in 1912. Heavy timbers support framed wood and ceilings are lined with stained wood.The main side alters are in pine specifically designed to conform with the building.
Further additions were opened in 1928.
This Church replaced the original Catholic church "St Francis De Sales "which was built on Daddow Rd,
The Church was named [Our Lady Of Mercy] in recognition of the fact that Father Landy 1n 1885 started his work in a parish on the Feast of Our Lady Of Mercy .
