Erdöl- und Weinland Prottes - ein Spaziergang

Prottes is located at the border between the Marchfeld Plain and the wine-growing area “Weinland”. Behind an altitudinal belt in the North, you can find “Matzner Wald” (Matzen forest).
The landscape around Prottes is defined by extensive vineyards and orchards as well as by crude oil and natural gas wells.
In former times, Prottes featured vast workshops and deposits and thus served as the OMV’s main hub. It’s those days that the unique crude oil and natural gas trail tells of with its many exhibits. Two of these exhibits are stages of our lab caches. These lab caches will take you on a tour around the hills of Prottes and show you a wonderful view of the village’s surroundings at the “Karpatenblick” (view of the Carpathian Mountains) on your way.
The leisurely hike is about 5 km long and can easily be done with children. Especially at the weekend, it’s very popular with the locals. Of course, you can do this round by bike, but be prepared for some uphill stretches.
