Rigside and Douglas Water Community Nature Reserve, which sits between the village of Douglas Water and the river, it is a precious resource for the local community and for many from further afield. It is an oasis for birds, with many winter visitors, and animals including herons, lapwings, and geese by the hundred, whooper swans and otters. It offers access to beautiful countryside and has the potential for enhanced pathway networks. It is an opportunity to link people from the local area and beyond with nature.
Since 2018 a new generation of committee members has been trying to revitalise the reserve and create access-for-all paths to make it easier for everybody to visit.
This cache has been placed by the Loudon Pond volunteers, please visit the reserve and contact them on Facebook "Making Rigside Greener Group" page or by emailing them at greenerrigside@gmail.com if you want to join them or help in any way.
