Spirit Quest - Klickitat / Mayfield IOOF Cemetery
The closest parking to the cache will be the parking for the cemetery which is along Mossyroad road west. The cache is inside the cemetery grounds and the cemetery is closed during hours of darkness, so please limit your search to daylight hours only.
Cemetery History:
The cemetery is actually two cemeteries that were started right next to each other and today they have both became known as the Klickitat cemtery. Section #1 was originally known as the Hendrick's cemetery, it was essentially a family cemetery, and was later renamed the Klickitat cemetery. Section #2 was the Mayfield IOOF cemetery. While there are no physiacal barriers separating the two cemeteries or signs that indicate anything about the Mayfield IOOF cemetery, to this day the Washington State Genealogy Society maintains seperate listings for the IOOF portion.
About the cache:
On your search for the cache, you will be looking for a small sized container (a large pill bottle). The cache is just a just inside of the cemetery, but it is away from graves. The cache should be fairly easy to locate especially with the use of the hint.
While there are no posted hours, the cemetery is closed during the hours of darkness. While there is no physical barrier from Mossyrock road, don't be tempted to walk the short distance if it is dark out. I ask that the cacher only search for this cache during daylight hours out of respect for the cemetery, this means no night caching. While you are here please take your time and look around, and enjoy all of the history here, but remember to be respectful, since the cemetery is still active it is possible that there could be mourners or other visitors that might not understand what we are doing. The cache is NOT located near any graves.
