En 1944 lors de la libération de la commune, les Allemands se sont retranchés dans les dunes de Lindbergh, les Américains au village de "la Rivière" (cf † col Bower King). Le père Albert curé de Port-Bail s' avance aux devant des Allemands leur demandant de cesser le combat. Il fût arrêté et déporté en Allemagne où il mourut. En 1960 le conseil municipal donna son nom à la "route de St Sauveur" .
