Incubatoio Marco De Marchi
Alcuni giorni fa stavo cercando un parcheggio a Fiumelatte. Dopo aver lasciato l'auto l'occhio mi è caduto sul grande edificio dall'altro lato della strada, l'Incubatoio Marco De Marchi. Che sarà mai? Di certo, passando in macchina, non l'avevo mai notato.
Ho chiesto in giro e poi ho fatto una breve ricerca in rete. Riporto di seguito una parte della presentazione dell'incubatoio dal sito della Provincia di Lecco.
Nei primi anni del Novecento, Marco De Marchi, noto filantropo e naturalista, realizzò a Varenna nella frazione di Fiumelatte in un edificio già adibito a fabbrica di vetri soffiati, un incubatoio finalizzato al ripopolamento ittico del Lago di Como. L’incubatoio di Fiumelatte fu una delle prime strutture dedicate alla riproduzione artificiale dei pesci realizzate in Italia e De Marchi vi svolgeva lezioni di idrobiologia, ancora oggi all’interno della sala principale si può vedere il ballatoio dal quale gli studenti seguivano le sue lezioni. Nel 1927 De Marchi donò l’edificio alla Società Lombarda per la Pesca e l’Acquicoltura, per l’allestimento di un grande centro di piscicoltura. [...]
Dopo la morte di De Marchi, l’incubatoio venne donato allo Stato Italiano, con la precisa volontà testamentaria di mantenerlo in funzione quale centro destinato ad aumentare la pescosità del Lario. [...]
L’incubatoio di Fiumelatte proseguì la sua attività fino al 1983 quando, a causa dell’obsolescenza della struttura e delle attrezzature, venne chiuso.
Dopo alcuni anni di abbandono, che avevano accelerato il degrado dell’immobile, nel 1998 la Provincia di Lecco, intenzionata a riattivare la struttura, indirizzò al Ministero delle Finanze una richiesta d’acquisto in seguito alla quale si aggiudicò l’incubatoio vincendo un’asta pubblica. Una volta entrata in possesso dell’immobile la Provincia si è occupata della sua ristrutturazione e dell’acquisto di strumenti macchinari necessari per la produzione di novellame.
I lavori di ristrutturazione ed ammodernamento durarono quattro anni, il nuovo centro ittiogenico di Fiumelatte è stato inaugurato il 16 marzo del 2002 e da allora non ha mai cessato la produzione. [...]

A few days ago I was looking for a parking place in Fiumelatte. After leaving the car the eye fell on the big building on the other side of the street, the Incubatoio Marco De Marchi (hatchery). What will it be? Certainly I had never noticed it.
I asked around and then I did a short search on the web. Below is a part of the presentation of the hatchery from the Lecco County website.
In the early twentieth century, Marco De Marchi, a well-known philanthropist and naturalist, built in Varenna in the hamlet of Fiumelatte in a building already used as a blown glass factory, a hatchery aimed at restocking fish on Lake Como. The Fiumelatte hatchery was one of the first structures dedicated to the artificial reproduction of fish made in Italy and De Marchi gave lectures on hydrobiology, still today inside the main hall you can see the gallery from which the students followed his lessons. In 1927 De Marchi donated the building to the Società Lombarda per la Pesca e l’Acquicoltura, for the construction of a large fish farm. [...]
After the death of De Marchi, the hatchery was donated to the Italian State, with the precise testamentary will to keep it in operation as a center used to increase the fishiness of the Lario. [...]
The Fiumelatte hatchery continued its activity until 1983 when, due to the obsolescence of the structure and equipment, it was closed.
After some years of abandonment, which had accelerated the degradation of the building, in 1998 the Lecco County, intending to reactivate the structure, sent a request for purchase to the Ministry of Finance following which it gained the hatchery by winning a public auction. Once in possession of the property, the County took care of its restructuring and the purchase of machinery tools necessary for the production of juveniles.
The renovation and modernization works lasted four years, the new fish center of Fiumelatte was inaugurated on March 16th, 2002 and has never ceased production ever since. [...]
