Spring
We experience spring from march to may month.
In this period theres'a lot of things happening. We adjust the clock to summer time ( at least one last time) We celebrate easter, workers day is 1st of may, liberation day 8th of may, 17th of may is our day of constitution, and some christian holidays. Rhe Geo-caching society also have a mega event in norway around this time.
Spring is counted from March to May
During this period, many things happen:
Summertime: March 29, 2020, we set an hour
History: American Benjamin Franklin introduced the idea of summertime as early as 1784, but we did not begin to set the clock back and forth until World War I.
In March 2019, the European Parliament voted to repeal the Summer Time Directive. The plan is for the EU and partner countries such as Norway to stop calling one hour back and forth from autumn 2021
A good rule of thumb is that the clock should always be set to the nearest summer. That is, one hour in the spring (towards the summer) and one hour back in the autumn (towards the summer).
Easter is the most central of the Christian holidays of the church year, both for the Roman Catholic, the Orthodox and the Protestant churches. The feast is celebrated in memory of Jesus Christ's last supper, crucifixion, suffering, death, and resurrection, which according to the gospels in the Bible took place during the Jewish Passover celebration of Jerusalem. Prior to Easter, the fasting time and the quiet week are marked, and after Easter Sunday comes the Easter time, which lasts until Pentecost.
May 1 Workers' International Match Day The International Workers' Congress met in Paris in 1889 to found the Second International. Following proposals from the trade unions in the United States, May 1 was adopted as a demonstration day. This was linked to the fact that on May 3, 1886, the police shot and killed four protesters during a general strike in Chicago, requiring the introduction of an eight-hour work day. The strike had begun on May 1st. These events are remembered today as May 1 or the workers' day in most industrialized countries. Carl Jeppesen participated from Norway, who made sure that day was also chosen in Norway. The day was first celebrated in 1890 as the workers' own international match and celebration day.
The Liberation Day in Norway on Tuesday, May 8, 1945, is the day when German military forces capitulated after they had occupied the country since Tuesday, April 9, 1940 for five years during World War II. After the German forces in Norway capitulated on May 8, the country was occupied by Allied (British and American) forces until June 7, 1945.
May 17 is Norway's National Day. On this day in 1814, the Norwegian Constitution was dated and signed by the presidency of the National Assembly at Eidsvoll. The assembly then unanimously elected the regent, Prince Christian Frederik, to be the king of an independent Norway. Later that day, he received a deputation from representatives, led by President Georg Sverdrup, who informed him of the election and handed him a clean copy of the Constitution.
Ascension Day is a Christian moving holiday celebrated 39 days after the first day of Easter. The Ascension Day of Christ is celebrated in memory of Jesus Christ, according to the Gospel of Luke, to have ascended to heaven 39 days after His resurrection
Pentecost is a Christian holiday 49 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament in the Bible, from the dead on Easter Sunday. The name Pentecost comes from the Greek word "pentekoste", which means fifteenth
Children's day in Porsgrunn
Ever since 1946, Children's Day has been a concept in Porsgrunn. It started with an idea by Wilhelm Karlsen to arrange a proceeds and lottery for revenue for the operation of Munk and Klem's orphanage. The event was a success and has since been held in the city center every year. Now it is arranged first and foremost to support the relief work for children and young people in the immediate area.
Same time every year
Children's Day brings together 30,000 -40,000 people in the city and is held last Saturday in May of each year except when the date coincides with Pentecost. Then the event is usually moved to the first Saturday in June.
The day should be a feast day for children and young people.
The Viking event will be held for the fifth time in 2020, and the MEGA event will be held in Vestfold this year. This usually ends up in Pentecost.
Geocaching in Norway (GiNo) has ownership of the Viking event. GiNo wants the event to move around the country and is organized by local forces. They search for teams / associations every year if anyone can take on the challenge of arranging Viking events
