Acadia Cinema Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

juniorwoodchuckhuey: OK, enough is enough. Due to the extended period that Acadia has been closed to the public, I am going to archive several caches on campus (although this one has an off-campus starting point, the final is on-campus). There will be opportunities to have film-themed caches in the future, so this one goes.

Thanks everyone for your visits. When campus reopens, there will be new hides. Cache on!

Geocache Description:

Congrats to 2 GYPSIES WITH NO MOSS BETWEEN OUR TOES on FTF!

Go to the posted coordinates, walk around the front of the cinema to answer a few questions, and then proceed to the final location (about 1km away if you walk it).

The Acadia Cinema building has played an important role in the social life of Valley communities surrounding Wolfville beginning with the Wolfville Opera House in 1911.  Renamed, refurbished and rebuilt over the years, it became the Orpheum Theatre (1923), the Acadia Theatre (1947), Acadia Twin Cinemas (1986) and finally the Acadia Cinemas (a tri-plex, 1997), which closed when Al Whittle, manager of 47 years, retired in 2000. The Acadia Cinema Cooperative Ltd opened the doors of the Al Whittle Theatre with an anchor-tenant Fundy Film Society screening on November 7, 2004.

The photos below are from https://acadiacinema.coop/history/

The Opera House opened its doors in 1911.

1947: Construction of the Acadia Theatre was completed in October

1958: An ad in Acadia University's newspaper read 'free movie for those in pyjamas'.

To find the coordinates of this multi-stage geocache, answer these questions:

  1. At the front of the building, there is a plaque indicating that the building is a Registered Heritage Property.  Below that there is an oval.  Find the year on that oval.  It is ABAA.
  2. In the alley on the East side of the building, find a mural.  It has a movie quote "This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" .  In the lower right corner, find a year.  Take the digital root of the year, and call this C.  Digital root = add individual digits together to get a 2-digit number.  Then add those 2 digits together.

The geocache is located at N 45 05.CCC W 64 22.ACB.  If you want to check your answers, A + B + C = 17.  Now go get it!
