Geocache Description:

23 November 2019, 09:00 - 09:30

I thought it would be good to get together on November 23rd to celebrate Fibonacci Day.

Leonardo Bonacci was one of the most influential mathematicians of the Middle Ages and every year he is celebrated on November 23rd with Fibonacci Day.

Why November 23rd and why Fibonacci day? Well is because when the date is written in the mm/dd format (11/23), the digits in the date form a Fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3. A Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the sum of the two numbers before it. For example: 1, 1, 2, 3...is a Fibonacci sequence. Here, 2 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+1). Similarly, 3 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+2).

I know there is a puzzle cache out there somewhere that uses this in the solution, so I thought it was as good reason to get together and ponder Fibonacci day.

We'll meet at Tim Hortons at Eagle Creek at 9:00 am.
