Geocache Description:

This is a GADGET cache. You are seeking a gold ammocan, inside a host container. It is located at the posted coordinates, but you must figure out how to open the host container to access the ammocan and logbook.  Please be careful with the cache; there is no need to be forceful for it to open. If you do the right thing, a gentle touch at the right time or place is all that is needed to open the cache. Please be respectful of the intention of the cache and do NOT unscrew it or break it to access the logbook!

This cache is a 1000 milestone tribute cache for CachedIronSkillet. He began caching in April 2015, originally going by the name Schirf. Ellehcim510 had invited his wife, a muggle at the time, to go geocaching for her first time in the local area.  She not only agreed, but she also said she'd be interested in going anywhere within a day trip's distance and that she'd like to bring her husband and one of her daughters along to try geocaching as well. Ellehcim510 suggested the group go to West Virginia to check out WVTim gadget caches.

The 3 muggles created geocaching accounts during the car ride to West Virginia. CachedIronSkillet had a name in mind that ended up already being taken, so decided upon Schirf instead at the time. Gadget caches and regular size caches quickly became Schirf's favorite types of geocaches to find, also enjoying a nice hike in the woods. He got away from caching for a few years but picked it up again in 2018.

In 2018, Schirf attended a picnic/camping event that he took cast iron skillets to for cooking over the campfire (GC7XGXM - 2018 MGS Fall Picnic - Friends 'Round The Campfire). A comment was made by someone who didn't know Schirf's caching name or real name, therefore referring to him instead as "cast iron skillet guy". It was that event that inspired Schirf to change his name to CachedIronSkillet.

One of CachedIronSkillet's personal caching goals (of which he has many) was to find at least 500 regular size containers by the time he reached 1000, so that he would find more regular size caches than any other cache size combined, which he accomplished. CachedIronSkillet likes to find gadget caches and also builds gadget caches. His caches have been awarded 205 favorite points so far. So, as a tribute to CachedIronSkillet, this cache is an ammocan, in a gadget, in the woods, and even includes a "cast iron" skillet.

Congratulations to CachedIronSkillet for finding 1000 geocaches!

This cache is located on the grounds of Fort Roberdeau Historic Site and Natural Area.  The park is open from 8AM to sunset, is located on 230 acres of land, and includes trails, picnic areas, and a reconstructed Revolutionary War fort.  Admission is only charged to those wishing to tour the fort (which is not needed to find this cache).  If you do wish to tour the fort, hours and prices can be found on their website.

Permission has been granted by the Executive Director and Board of Directors for ellehcim510 to place geocaches on the Fort grounds.
