Over the last 50 years, Milton Keynes has developed an excellent reputation for Public Art development, with over 220 Public Artworks across the city.

"Public Art in Milton Keynes is about inviting the vision, creativity, and skills of artists, to engage people freely with the place, in a well-considered way."

A quick short meet to introduce you to one of MK's sometimes forgotten pieces of artwork. The usual chatter and socialising are encouraged.

When: Saturday 21st December 09:00 to 09:30

Where: Meet next to the artwork "GnomonGnomon".

Who: Geocachers near and far, new and old, everyone is welcome!

Why: A series of events across Milton Keynes to showcase the public art, where many geocaches take inspiration from or are based upon.

GnomonGnomon (Shadow Caster): Peter Bowke, 1994

Ffestinog blue grey slate and bronze. A gnomon is the stationary arm that projects the shadow on a sundial, and this sculpture has been designed to act as a shadow caster. A ley-line is thought to run through the centre of Milton Keynes and the sculpture takes its reference from this prehistoric track, its form relating to such ancient structures as Stonehenge. The work was made as a site specific piece and has been constructed of untreated slate, celebrating the beauty of the material in its natural state. The work has also been nick-named the cricket piece due to its resemblance to cricket stumps and proximity to the cricket pitch.
