NOTE:
Caution should be taken when walking
to the end of the wall as the terrain
is uneven and exposed to the weather.
It would be advisable to bring good footwear and
be prepared for wind/waves splashing.
I would not advise doing the cache when it's getting dark or during extreme weather!
About the place:
The end of the Great South Wall is where the end of the River Liffey flows into the Irish Sea. The wall extends nearly 4 miles into the bay and at the time of construction was the largest sea wall in the world.
At the end of the wall you encounter amazing views of Dublin and surrounding scenery, the sea and also Poolbeg lighthouse.
Originally built in 1768 it was reportedly the first lighthouse in the world to be powered by candle light.
The lighthouse was redesigned to its current form in 1820 by George Halpin. It is painted red to indicate 'Port Side' whereas North bull lighthouse which is also visible is painted green to indicate 'Starboard' for ships entering the harbour.
The Cache: The cache is a small nano and must be signed to log so try not to forget a pen because it's an awful long way back to get one!
Please place the cache back exactly where found as being an area exposed to the elements it may not last long unless left in its original hiding place. A tweezers may help remove the logbook.
Good luck caching!
