Geocache Description:

This Cache is placed to honor two things one is the Sliding Jail of Jerome and the other is the incredible view you see in front of you.

The Jerome Sliding Jail had its start in 1905, a whopping 225 feet up the hill. It was originally one of 3 jails in the city that housed the gunslinging bandits of the southwest. Due to the steep slope that Jerome is built on and some underground blasting in 1938, the structure tore away from the rest of the house it was originally connected to. It then continued to creep down the hill. Luckily all prisoners were evacuated before the jail started it’s decent. Today, it is a good reminder that this beautiful town was built on a mountain and therefore all of the houses you see had to be built with amazing support. Otherwise, they would follow this jail’s footsteps, and they would slide down the hill. I have gotten special permission to highlight this remarkable landmark by the city of Jerome and because of this, I ask for you to keep this historical site safe and give it at least 15 feet of space for safety reasons. The jail could still be sliding. I also ask that you remove trash as you come. This area tends to be a hotspot for litterbugs and I’d love to keep it as beautiful and as safe a possible. Also, please take a minute to appreciate this beautiful view. This is one of the few places in the world where you can see Flagstaff, Cottonwood, Sedona, and Camp Verde all at the same time.

I hope you enjoy it!

Spoilers will be deleted and please replace the cache and anything you mess with just as you found it! I have special permission from Jerome to place this cache and it would be a shame to have that permission revoked.

Congrats to AdventureMike for FTF!!!!
