Basil Read was an engineer who founded a company of his own name. That company's first job was building the runway at Bloemfontein's airport in 1952.It listed on the JSE in 1987 and in 2007 was one of (if not the) South Africa's top compnies and listed in Business Times top 100 companies.
However, in 2018, it filed for bankrupcy. The street on which this park is located is named after the founder.
