Please note this geocache is only available during daylight hours. Congratulations to Dover Spike on FTF!
Most of New Castle's Jewish history can be found within a very short distance on the North Hill section of town. There used to be two distinct fellowships within a block of each other. In 1998, the congregations combined. Ultimately, due to lack of members, the local synagogue closed in 2017.
At the above coordinates, you will find yourself on the sidewalk looking north at a mural upon the former Tifereth Israel Synagogue, which later became Temple Hadar Israel. Please admire the work dedicated in memory of the Kohn family. Note the direction the Lion is looking. That's where you need to head next.
As you travel .1 miles westward, you may notice the small church across the street called TIKVAT T'ZION. This is actually a current Messianic Synagogue. Upon completion of your stroll, you will come across Chapel Jubilee. This is the Temple Israel Synagogue. This building closed in 1998. At this location, you will be able to decipher the final coordinates for this geocache
To complete the North coordinate, find the TEMPLE ISRAEL sign located to the right of the front staircase near ground level. Take the first set of numbers located before the word "ERECTED" and subtract 4710 from that number.
To complete the West coordinate, find the words located high above the main entrance to the building. They form an arc. Take the amount of numbers in the last word and multiply that amount by 63.
Final location: N41 00.___ W80 21.___
