La ligne de chemin de fer de la Petite Ceinture de Paris est ouverte en 1867 et atteint son apogée en 1900 où elle assure la desserte de l'exposition universelle et transporte plus de 38 millions voyageurs.
Avec l'ouverture des lignes du métro, elle perd peu à peu des voyageurs. Elle est complètement abondonnée en 1990.
Depuis 2007, la municipalité a entrepris de transformer certaines portions en coulées vertes. Quatre sections sont ouvertes au public dont la Petite Ceinture du 12e entre la rue Rottembourg et la rue de Montempoivre.

Paris' former Chemin de fer de Petite Ceinture (Little Belt Railway) would become a full circle of rail around the capital when its third Ceinture Rive Gauche section was built in 1867.
Much-frequented until its 1900 Universal Exposition peak, the Metro appearing that year would mark the onset of the Petite Ceinture line's decline. It finally closes in 1990. Since 2007, the municipality has undertaken to transform some portions into urban parks.
Four sections are open to the public, including the Little Belt of the 12th district between Rottembourg Street and Montempoivre Street.
