Geocache Description:

Early travelers through this part of the state reported the existence of a Standing Stone which had been originally erected by Native Americans near the junction of Standing Stone Creek and the Juniata River.  The Standing Stone is a symbol of Huntingdon and what the town/area was originally known as.  The stone was removed and replaced twice in time.  Then was erected a third time in it's current location but was destroyed.  It was erected a fouth time in it's current state and location in preparation for the Borough of Huntingdon's centennial anniversary.  Near the original location of the stone stood Fort Standing Stone; "built to protect settlers against Indian raids" according to the historical marker at the listed waypoint.  There is a substantial amount of local history that can be learned by online reading and the historical markers and plaques near this multi stage cache but I will leave that to you to discover on your own or simply make a find using this simple field puzzle.

At the posted coordinates you will find The Standing Stone and all of the information that you need to determine the coordinates for the geocache.

The final coordinates will lead you on about a half mile walk on a trail along the Standing Stone Creek beyond the Blair Park gazebo and recreation area. There is a public lot near the Isett community pool and the walk from there will take you past the Historical Marker waypoint. The info on this waypoint can be used to discover the nearest parking area which may be more difficult to find if you’re not familiar with the area. Simply add the number of yards that Fort Standing Stone was to both the North and West to the following coordinates to find the parking area.

N 40 28.732 W 77 59.973

Park closes after dark. Enjoy the history, the nature walk and the cache.  Be courteous of muggles in the area and be safe!
